Records daily financial transactions related to Waln's mercantile dealings as well as his household expenses, including profit and loss statements, payments to accounts, expenditures for ships sent overseas, wharfage fees, money invested in sugar and coffee speculation, lists of sundries purchased, amounts spent for tuition, items purchased from Fletcher & Gardiner (silversmiths), salaries paid to servants, etc. Many transactions involved Stephen Girard, a banker. Waln often recorded the occupations of those with whom he did business.
